The Teen Project

@ 1:26 pm
By the time Project members reach their late teens, they are well-prepared for a challenge. They enter a two-year program that focuses on bringing all of their skills and joys they developed at the Project all together. In the first year they are introduced to theater design and get a quick hands-on glimpse of lighting, set, prop, sound and costume design. They are then introduced to the skill of creating theater from their own ideas and themes of interest. This means that they create original theater together using their minds and bodies, as opposed to starting on paper. At the end of the first year, the teens present perform in an original One-Act play festival written by professional playwrights.

In the beginning of their second year, they pressed further to use theater to look critically at the world around them. They create socially relevant original plays while learning vital life skills, enabling youth to become self-confident, compassionate and accountable; to develop relationships across differences; build community; and be prepared to act as contributing citizens. This two-year program culminates in an original full-length play completely devised from the ideas of the teens.

Note that there are no  auditions required for this program and it continues to be free to the young people who participate.

The 2007 Teen group created a production of ROMEO & JULIET, which they performed in Marfa, TX.
